Podcasts are a powerful tool for both creating and consuming content. A great podcasting overview can be found on Tony Vincent’s Learning in Hand website.
Once you’ve created your podcast, they can be posted on almost any type of web page (the RSU1 blog, Google sites, Wix, etc.) but there are some specialized sites especially designed for podcasts, like Podbean.
At PES I’ve used podcasts as a quick way of sharing student work. For example, every year for National Poetry Month in April, the students record poetry podcasts. This year our 5th graders did a webquest comparing the Popham colony and the Jamestown colony and reported their findings in a series of “Popham Podcasts.”
The options really are endless! Because podcasts are so easy to create and share, they spark excitement quickly in the classroom. If you’re interested in getting some other ideas about how and why to use podcasts in the classroom, check out the article “Why Every School Should be Podcasting” and also take a peek at the website Podcasting & Education.
Finally, here’s a quick cheat sheet on how to make a podcast with your MLTI laptop.
Happy podcasting!
