Classroom Website Tune Up:

Thanks for coming today!  I appreciate the heads up that you all provided about what you hope to get out of this session.  Here are some links that target your specific needs (I hope!):

Audio recordings:

Vocaroo: This is a SUPER easy method for making audio recordings that can be linked or embedded to your website.  To use:
  • Click on "record"
  • The first time you use this site you will need to click "allow."
  • Once you do that, you are recording!  Click on "Click to stop" when you're done.
  • Listen and then either re-record or click "Click here to save."
  • From here, you can either get the embed code or the link to share this recording.
Here's what it looks and sounds like:

Record and upload audio >>

Blabberize: This site allows you to make "talking images."  This is great for sharing kids' voices!
  • Create an account so you can save your recordings
  • Click on "Make"
  • Click "browse" and upload a photo
  • Click the forward arrow on the lower right side
  • Reshape the "mouth" to be where you want it to be
  • Click the microphone icon
  • Click the round button to record and stop recording and then click the forward arrow
  •  Save the recording and then click "share it" to get the link or embed code.
Here's an example:

For photos and videos:

One of the easiest ways to get a slideshow into your website is to use Picasa.
Here are some quick directions for embedding a slideshow from Picasa into your blog:

Go to Picasa Web Albums (log in using your RSU1 Gmail account).
  1. Click on Upload to add new photos; once they are uploaded, give your new album a name.
  2. Choose the album that you would like to embed by clicking on the title of the album from your Picasa home page.
  3. On the right-hand side, click on the "edit" button next to where it says "Only you" and change it to "public on the web."
  4. Once you've made your album public, click on "Link to this Album" and then "Embed Slideshow."
  5. Choose the album size that you'd like and also whether you'd like it to autoplay and then copy the HTML code that appears in the box.
  6. Open a new tab in Firefox (go to File -> new tab) and go to Blogger.
  7. Click on New Post (or page, depending on where you want your slideshow to be) and then click on the "HTML" tab.  Paste your slideshow embed code.
  8. Publish!
Here's a video tutorial in case you get stuck:

Another easy option for video is to use QuickTime (software you have on your MacBook Air) to create a video:
  • Open QuickTime Player
  • Click File -> New Movie Recording
  • Hit the red button to start and stop recording
  • Click File -> Export
  • Name it and save it
  • In your blog post click the "insert video" icon
QuickTime videos look like this:

Embedding Social Media Feeds into your Websites:

If you use social media feeds and want to link them up to your website, you can either create a regular link or you can embed a widget:
Twitter
Pinterest
Facebook
