Creating a Classroom Website - Web Wednesday 1/27/10

In our after-school session on January 27th, we’ll be looking at a variety of tools that we can use to create a classroom web page.  Before you dive into the fun part of designing a website, it’s important to think about the purpose of your page: is it to communicate with parents and families?  To provide links that your students can access easily?  To promote discussion amongst your students and the community?  Or some combination thereof?

It might be helpful to read the article Digital Discussion: How to Set Up a Blog in Your Classroom, or  The Classroom Web Page: A Must Have (written by Maine’s Jim Moulton).   Both articles come from the excellent periodical Edutopia.

We will explore several different tools that can be used to easily make a web page: our very own RSU1 Blog Server, Wix, a super-cool site that allows you to design interactive flash pages, and both PBWorks and Wikispaces.  These are all great options for making a classroom website - you get to choose which one will work best for you!
